President's Letter to the Community

December 8, 2006

Dear BIMC members,

Reflecting back, it has been another busy yet productive year for the Blakely community and the board.

Hopefully everyone’s home has survived the two significant storms of this fall.  The latest one left 12+  inches of snow and took down lots of trees and branches. Jim has assured me that all the roads are passable but lots of work still needs to be done on the cleanup.

If you see Jim Davis moving a little slow it’s because he had hernia surgery this past week. He is recovering on the island and should be back to his old self in no time.

Here are some of the highlights for this year

  1. Marina lease and subsequent operation 20 year agreement to operate the marina signed with the Crowley family
Established a separate corporation and board to oversee the marina operation
Ken Parker sublet the marina operations
  2. Water storage tank was finished and brought online Many thanks again to Russ Keyes for all the time spent
  3. Acquisition of a new Blakely Island fire truck The Fire Committee facilitated the purchase of a new CAFS fire truck
After a community wide request for additional funds we were able to upgrade the fire truck.

Please see the attached photos of the snow storm and the new Blakely fire truck.

I hope to see many of you on the island over the holiday break.

Happy Holidays

John Madden
